La Jolla work is structural work. We did a historic ADU and load-bearing wall remodel here that needed steel beams to open the living space, on a hillside lot looking out over the canyon to the ocean. That is the pattern: older homes, often with real architectural value, on difficult ground, where what the owner wants requires an engineer before it requires a carpenter.

Steel gets used here more than anywhere else we work, because spans that a wood beam cannot carry are exactly the spans people want in a house with that view. Shoring, sequencing, and access on a narrow hillside street are all part of the job, and none of it is improvised.
