Cardiff-by-the-Sea is compact, close to the water, and full of homes that have been modified over decades. Lots are small and many properties are on a slope, so the useful outdoor space is often a deck rather than a yard.

That is most of what we build here: decks, railings, stairs, and the door systems that connect them to the house. All of it is directly exposed to marine air, so material selection and flashing detail are not places to economise. A deck built for an inland lot will not last the same number of years three blocks from the water.
